Saturday Morning Photos:
College Green Park is the oldest park in Iowa City. Everyone who has ever lived in Iowa City has done SOMETHING here that they may...or may not...recall. It is a special place to some; to others sacred.
Looking east along College at entrance to college Green Park.
This pigeon carcass looked recent to me. Poor thing was probably blown from its roost in the eaves of a nearby house.
The top has been snapped off this pine.
Near the center of the park, looking northeast.
The hole in the ground at the base of this tree was about 18 inches deep by 5 feet across.
The picnic table in the foreground had several of its planks snapped off. There is a lot of window glass and shingles and wooden shakes on the other side of this fallen oak.
Downed lamppost and some of the free firewood the city council is allowing residents to carry away...if they can lift it. No one but the City is allowed to drive onto or use wood cutting tools on the park grounds. DOH!
More BIG pieces of firewood. Plans are afoot to replant trees...when the circumstances are right in the fullness of time.
